Inks and other unique nanoformulations
Core to the QD Soleil technology is the ability to combinatorially create nanoscale materials of semiconductors, across a range of sizes and shapes. These materials are commonly referred to as inks in the industry. QD Soleil's world leading ink technology has been refined across many applications including transistors, flash memory and opto-electrics. This type of solution phase nanomaterial processing promises significant value in 3 rd generation solar by moving towards roll to roll manufacturing. As an example, CdTe inks are a differentiated technology significantly enabled by QD Soleil. In fact, QD Soleil has some of the only electronic purity, high performance materials technologies for this application. In addition, QD Soleil's synthetic technologies can create high value shapes for solar. For example, nanorod or nanotetrapods (inset picture, top down view) are materials where the electron mobility is enhanced because of the aspect ratio of the material. In the case of the nano-tetrapod, one arm is always pointing towards the electrode shortening the path for the electron to travel once generated. All of these materials can be used to create inks that then form continuous films or used in dual nanocrystal or nanocrystal/polymer blends.
