Composite dual nano and organic/nano devices
One of the key advantages of nanotechnology is the enabling of solar designs in new form factors, while utilizing a material set with known high performance. For example, semiconducting materials like silicon, CdTe or CIGS are the best materials for PV. However, as a bulk material they don't lend themselves to flexible cells. The semiconducting nanocrystals that QD Soleil has developed and refined are well suited for solar in either dual nanocrystal designs or nanocrystal/polymer hybrids. In either case, the nanomaterials process into a polymeric binder for both roll to roll manufacturing as well as flexibility. These materials can be used to create novel PV designs such as window laminates (pictured above) or other building materials that allow for PV generation.
